The Hindu Temple at the Queen’s Hill Army Camp in Fanling was completed in the 1960s and was built by Nepalese Gurkhas soldiers stationed at the camp to worship Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction. After 1996, the Gurkhas left, and the Hindu temple was abandoned. In 2010, it was rated as a Grade III historical building.
The temple is a gray-greenish hexagonal building with six spires on top, which is crown-shaped, symbolising a lotus flower that is regarded as a beautiful and sacred in Hinduism. It is the only lotus-shaped building in Hong Kong, rare and unique. The building is covered with moss and there is no decoration left in the temple. Each of the 6 sides has a portal, except the southeast side, with a small yellow window above the door. The interior of the building is painted red and blue, and the atmosphere is full of mystery.
