著名學者、翻譯家、作家，嶺南大學榮休教授，著作等身。與閔福德教授合編的學術著作 Classical Chinese Literature: An Anthology of Translations,Volume 1: From Antiquity to the Tang Dynasty（中文大學出版社，2000），深受好評。其他文集包括《吃馬鈴薯的日子》、《二殘遊記》、《九七香港浪遊記》、《偷窺天國》、《傳香火》、《小說與戲劇》、《情到濃時》、《文字豈是東西》等。譯作則有《中國現代小說史》及《一九八四》等。
